St Peter’s Lutheran Church
Latvia
One of the oldest and largest examples of medieval monumental churches in the Baltic. The church has been rebuilt several times. The main artistic detail in the interior are its star-shaped vaults. The church spire used to be the tallest wooden construction in Europe (136 m), but burned down several times until it was finally replaced by a substantial metal construction (1970). Tourists can now take up a lift to the viewing platform.
